In every community, there are families quietly navigating challenges that often remain unseen.
There are children seeking connection and belonging, and parents working tirelessly to help them feel included in a world that is not always designed with accessibility in mind.
At NorthStar Special Needs Society, these experiences are at the heart of our mission. That is why we are honoured to serve as a co-organizing partner of the National AccessAbility Week 2026 initiative — a community-driven effort dedicated to advancing accessibility, inclusion, and dignity for children and youth with disabilities across Canada.
Beyond Accessibility
National AccessAbility Week is more than a national campaign. It is a reminder that inclusion is not only about removing physical barriers, but also about creating communities where every individual feels respected, understood, and valued.
For many immigrant and multicultural families, conversations around disability can still be shaped by stigma, isolation, and limited access to support. Through NAAW 2026, NorthStar and its partners hope to encourage more open dialogue, stronger community connection, and greater public understanding.
The initiative will bring together families, educators, advocates, students, and community organizations through workshops, inclusive activities, and community engagement programs across the Greater Toronto Area, Ottawa and Vancouver.
Building a More Inclusive Future
The NAAW 2026 initiative is being developed in collaboration with partners including York University, with support from the Government of Canada.
At NorthStar, we believe inclusion is a shared responsibility. When communities become more accessible and compassionate, everyone benefits.
Because no child should feel excluded.
No family should feel unseen.
And no one should be left behind.
