Who We Are
NorthStar Special Needs Society (NSNS) is a nonprofit organization founded in 2022, dedicated to serving children with special educational needs and their families. Through diverse sports activities, NorthStar helps children enhance their physical and mental development, laying a solid foundation for their future social integration.
Among the many organizations in Ontario that provide support and services for children with autism, NorthStar is the pioneer organization that utilizes comprehensive sports therapy as an intervention method. Since its inception, NorthStar has successfully provided over 500 children with more than ten sports programs, including skiing, skating, table tennis, camping, rafting, and rowing, along with various outdoor activities.
Children participating in NorthStar’s structured training programs have shown significant improvements in language skills, attention span, communication abilities, and physical fitness. NorthStar’s specialized sports programs for children with special needs have gained widespread recognition, earning high praise from parents and making a profound social impact.

Our Achievements
Since its inception, NSNS has successfully provided skiing, skating, table tennis, camping, paddling, and other outdoor activities for over 500 children with special needs. Many parents have reported significant improvements in their children's language skills, attention span, and communication abilities after participating in these programs. The courses tailored for children with autism have received widespread positive feedback and have made a notable social impact, earning recognition from various media outlets.
NSNS organizes over twenty public welfare events annually for families with special needs, including Public Movie Days, Public Skating Days, and Public Paddling Days. In April 2024, NSNS hosted a month-long Autism Awareness Month featuring public lectures, skating events, free performances, a children's painting competition and exhibition, and a ten-day comic series to educate the public about autism. Last year, at a major charity event in Toronto, NSNS had the honour of sharing the stage with SickKids Foundation, which is the only two organizations to receive charitable donations. Furthermore, in the 2024 application for Canada's federal National AccessAbility Week (NAAW) program, NSNS stood out among many reputable organizations nationwide and became one of the 20 winners. As a result, NSNS has been awarded the honour of hosting the 2025-2026 NAAW projects across Canada. Those events will provide an opportunity to recognize the contributions of individuals with disabilities, raise awareness about accessibility challenges, and promote a more inclusive society.
